Why this puja?

Shraddha rituals are performed to express gratitude to ancestors and seek their blessings, most commonly during Pitru Paksha (a fortnight in the Hindu calendar dedicated to ancestor worship).

Samagri (What You'll Need)

  • Black sesame seeds200g
  • Kusha grass1 bundle
  • Rice & barley1 kg each
  • White flowers1 bunch

Step-by-Step Guide

  1. 1

    Choose the tithi

    Perform on the ancestor's death anniversary tithi during Pitru Paksha.

  2. 2

    Pind Daan

    Offer rice ball (pind) mixtures to ancestors near a water body or with a priest.

  3. 3

    Tarpan

    Offer water mixed with sesame seeds to ancestors.

  4. 4

    Feed and donate

    Feed crows, cows, and Brahmins, and donate to those in need.
